The Resident Limited is registered in February 1993 by private persons.
The staff on 01.01.2001 is 22 persons.
Company structure includes 3 main departments:
- Information Systems development and support group
- MapEDIT vectorization automation software development and support group
- Digital Maps and Data group.

- A voting member of Association for assistance to the market of geoinformation technologies (Russian Federation).
2. Main Activities
Developing and supplying of the MapEDIT vectorization automation system, specialized software for digital vector maps creation and update by means of scanned cartographic materials, aerial and satellite surveying data processing.
Cartographic and related materials digitizing.
Data base applications development, implementation and support, based on the client/server technology, distributed calculations and geoinformation means for data visualization and analysis.
Various level GIS integration.
MapEDIT and MapInfo software users' training. GIS consulting.

4. MapEDIT Vectorization Automation System
Digital vector maps are one of the main components of GIS and digital mapping systems. From 1995 Resident is developing and supplies the cartographic materials vectorization automation system MapEDIT, providing to the market a professional tool for fast creating of high quality digital maps.
One of the main activities of Resident is supplying of digital data sets for end-user GIS software of different platforms. Unlike many other companies Resident uses the same software that it sells. The Digital Maps and Data Group of Resident company is creating for our customers digital maps of different type and scale, being at the same time a unique test laboratory for digitizing software developed by the MapEDIT vectorization automation software development and support Group.
At the present time the MapEDIT software is an acknowledged leader among the digitizing automation software on the MS Windows platform in Russia. More then 600 organizations in various spheres of activity are users of MapEDIT in Russian Federation and CIS. Among them there are: Geodesy and Cartography Federal Service Enterprises, Companies and Research Centers engaged in petroleum and gas production, Organizations Engaged in Geology and Natural and Mineral Resources Consumption, Local Authorities, Forestry Enterprises, Research and Design Institutes, Educational Establishments, and many others.
In 1997 vectorization technology MapEDIT was tested, approved and implemented by the Korea Institute of Geology, Mining and Materials.
In 1998 MapEDIT software English version was launched. From the version 4.5 of MapEDIT software (June 1999) Russian and English versions are launched simultaneously.
In the United Kingdom MapEDIT software is distributed by the MapCentric Consultants Ltd.
5. GIS and Database Applications Development
Information Systems development and support Group of the Resident company has supplied software, developed applications, and trained experts for dozens of state and private organizations of Russia for more then six years. Our customers use capacity of desktop cartography systems in such spheres as designing of telecommunication networks, power grid control, prevention and liquidation of states of emergency, historical and architectural analysis of town-planning environment, monitoring of transportation, road construction, etc.
6. Our Projects
The key factor of our offerings is the ability to meet user requirements both in stand-alone GIS products and quality data sets, and in integrated information systems.
1994 Cartographic information system for cable telephone networks designing was realized at the order of COMSTAR Telecommunications Company on the basis of the MapInfo Software and Moscow City digital map. (Software used - MS Access, MapInfo, MapBasic).
1995 Information and analytic system "World's Mineral and Raw Resources" was projected and introduced at the order of GNPP "AEROGEOLOGY". (Software used - MS Access, MapInfo, MapBasic).
1995-1996 Software and digital maps for the project "Actualization of Databases of computer-aided information and reference cartographic system for efficient control of distribution of chemical armament with the purpose of preparation of Convention for a ban on chemical weapon" was supplied at the order of the Committee for conventional problems on chemical and biological weapons at Russian Federation President against governmental contract N ÊÕ-56-96.
1997-1998 System of state cadastral land registration was developed at the order of Land Committee of Odintsovskiy district in Moscow region. (Software used - MS Access, MapInfo, MapBasic, MapEDIT).
1997-1998 Cartographic information searching system on fuel and energy complex of Russian Federation was developed at the order of JSC "INKOTEK" in the favor of RAO GAZPROM. (Software used Delphi, InterBase, MapInfo, MapBasic).
1997 Digital map of Russian Federation administrative division of the scale 1:4000000 was developed together with states cartography enterprise ROSGEOINFORM. (Software used ArcInfo, ArcView, MapInfo, MapBasic).
1997-1998 Cartographic system for placing and efficient monitoring of objects of the filling station network on the territory of Moscow and Moscow region, other cities of Russian Federation was developed at the order of British Petroleum (Russia). (Software used MS Access, MapInfo, MapBasic).
1998 Cartographic databases (including DEMs) on Russian Federation territories was created at the order of JSC "RegionTrank" with the purpose of simulation of conditions of broadcasting for projecting radio communication networks. (Software used MapInfo, C++, Vertical Mapper).
1997-1998 Quantity analysis of groups of parameters of main gas pipelines on the basis of available gas pipeline outlines, cartographic materials and data of aerial mapping was developed at the order of ERNST&YOUNG CIS. (Software used MapEDIT, MapInfo, MapBasic)
1998 Digital Atlas of pipeline transportation system within Russian Federation, CIS, Baltic States, Eastern and Central Europe was developed. (Software used Delphi, MapInfo,MapX).
1999 Software for object control complex of surface services monitoring system of the Moscow City Domodedovo airport was developed. (Software used Borland C++ Builder, ORACLE, UNIX).
